The Glove Puppets Live - St. Madoes Community
Centre
This was The Glove Puppets' first live appearance in over
eight years but nobody would have guessed it, judging by the
tightness of the performance. Deciding to perform a set mainly
comprising cover versions, Gibson and Dorman took the stage
at around 8.15pm to a community centre that was quite literally
bursting at the seams.
Around 150 locals sang along to 60s and 70s hits including
Dear Prudence, Help, Knocking On Heaven's Door and Layla.
However, the Puppets came into their own when it was time
to unleash some of their own material, choosing two classics
from their highly acclaimed debut album, Universal Bubble.
First up was the meandering and thought provoking Emotion,
which finished the first half of the set. A final burst of
Honey was rewarded by rapturous applause at the end of the
second set and all that remained was for Gibson and Dorman
to take a gentle bowv and exit stage left. A raw, grass roots
performance with an abundance of sweat, passion and panache.
