In life and search engines, there are no guarantees

It is crucial to note that no company can guarantee a particular ranking on a search engine in the regular listings. These are determined by a myriad of factors which vary from search engine to search engine. Despite our best efforts, we can only guarantee registration for the search terms but not the appearance in any search engine or the rank of a particular website for a specified search term.

However, extrapolating from past successes into the future we are certain that the process does improve the ranking considerably for many clients. For many broad search terms e.g. “lawyers” combined with regional search terms e.g. “London” we have had excellent results.

Having friends helps

Google is king. And the major factor that Google uses to determine your website’s ranking is how many friends you have. Even in the world of search engines, your life is a popularity contest. The more websites that link to your website, the higher your ranking.

Coming up with key-words

"Key words" (or "meta-tags" in geek speak) are the search terms that users are likely to enter in order to find your website. They can be a single word (e.g. "investment") or a collection of words (e.g. "french telecommunication rates"). You are not always the best judge of what other people might plug into Google. If possible, take a straw poll of your clients or friends and ask them what they would enter. The answers might suprise you and, even if they don't, it is always good to have a second opinion.

Search Engines – Getting to the top spot

“I want to be number one.” This is the battle cry of many of our clients and rightly so. Unfortunately, they are not alone. Every company wants to be ranked number one in the major search engines. So just how do you do it? Well, search engines aren’t as easily bribed into great rankings as one might think.
